1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
2 large eggs, at room temperature
2 tablespoons red food coloring
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted, plus more for the pans
3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa, plus more for the pans
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup buttermilk, at room temperature
1 tablespoon white vinegar
1 teaspoon baking soda

Cream Cheese Frosting
12 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
8 tablespoon (1 stick) unsalted butter, at room temperature
5 cups powdered sugar, sifted
Pinch of salt
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
