Barley Fried Rice

  • Barley
  • Red Pepper, diced
  • 1 Egg
  • Scallion, diced
  • Asparagus, chopped into 1" pieces
  • Soy sauce
  • Olive oil


  1. Cook barley. This can be done in advance.  It takes a while - like 30 minutes!
  2. Heat pan with high sidesover medium-high heat. Add splash of aolive oil
  3. Saute asparagus, scallion, pepper for about 3 minutes in a pan with high sides
  4. Add rice and mix. Get rice hot, as it needs to cook the egg
  5. Add egg and mix
  6. Add splash of soy sauce and mix
