Brown Lentil Curry

Ingredients: 

2 cup of brown lentils
1 onion
1 tsp garlic and ginger
a chopped tomato
5 ml tomato paste
1-2 chillies finely chopped.

Add to onion mixture
3 cardamoms
1 piece stick cinnamon
1 tsp salt or to taste
1 tsp turmeric / borrie
1 tsp coriander
1 tsp jeera
1tsp crushed chilies
2 tsp leaf masala / roasted masala


Boil 2 cup of brown lentils ( when cooked it will be about 3 cups )with enough water to cover. Boil brown lentils for at least 30 minutes. Pour into a colander and rinse until the water runs clear. 

In the mean time braise an onion 1 tsp garlic and ginger until golden brown. Add a chopped tomato and 5 ml tomato paste. 
1-2 chillies finely chopped. 

Add to onion mixture
3 cardamoms
1 piece stick cinnamon
1 tsp salt or to taste 
1 tsp turmeric / borrie
1 tsp coriander
1 tsp jeera
1tsp crushed chilies
2 tsp leaf masala / roasted masala

Add mutton pieces or beef pieces and cook with spices until tender at least 45 minutes. 

Add a few potatoes and cook for further 15 minutes on slow heat.

Add cooked and drained lentils and slow cook for a further 15 minutes. 

Add a handful of chopped Dhunya and Enjoy

Serve with rice, rotis, atchars or onion and tomato salad
