Chickpea, Kale, and Tomato Soup

1 small red onion, diced
1 large zucchini, diced
1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 28oz. can whole peeled tomatoes
2 cups canned chickpeas, drained and rinsed
6-8 stalks kale, roughly chopped
1 large fresh tomato
3 teaspoons cumin powder
1 teaspoon chili powder
