Gingerbread Cookies & House

Ingredients: 

1 cup shortening
1 cup granular sugar
1 cup molasses
1 egg
4 cups flour, add extra as required when rolling
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
3 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp ginger
1 tsp cloves
1 tsp nutmeg


  1. Cream shortening and sugar together
  2. Add egg and molasses, then beat
  3. Sitr in remaining dry ingredients - only add enough flour to make dough stiff
  4. Roll out dough foil sheet lightly dusted with flour, about 1/8 inch thick.  Cut desired pattern.
  5. Transfer from foil to an ungreased cookie sheet
  6. Leave atleast 1/2 space between pieces while cooking
  7. Bake at 300F for 20 minutes
  8. Cool on baking rack
  9. Decorate and assemble house with royal icing
