Homemade Pea Soup with Ham

Notes: 

cooked veg with bacon grease, added bacon to ham, added sweet potato, used crushed red pepper instead of szechuan

Ingredients: 

2 cups dried split peas
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 onion, chopped
3 stalks celery, chopped
1 carrot, minced
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 bay leaf
1 pound ham, cubed
2 quarts chicken broth(approx.)
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. ground black pepper
1/4 tsp. ground white pepper
1/4 tsp. ground Szechuan peppercorns
