Pooris (Mildly spiced seafood gravy using coconut)


For the Pooris masala (spice mix):

Dhaniya (coriander) seeds – 2 tbsp

Jeera (cumin) seeds – 1 tbsp

Kalimiri (black pepper) pods – 1 tsp

Haldi (turmeric) powder – 1/2 tsp

For the curry:

Kaanda (onion) – 1 big, sliced fine

Tel (oil) – 1+1/2 tbsp

Ala-lassoon (ginger-garlic) paste – 1+1/2 tbsp (fresh ginger-garlic is even better)

Hirvi mirchi (green chili) – 1 (if very hot) or 2 (if they aren’t very hot), de-seeded and chopped

Mitha (Salt) – 2 tsp

Maura (fish) – 400 gms of khaazuri (barramundi)

Naarolcha doodh (coconut milk) – little more than 4 tbsps mixed with 1+1/2 cup lukewarm water

Inaagri (vinegar) – 2 tbsps if strong / 3 tbsps if weak

Kothimri (coriander) – 1 tbsp, chopped
