3 cups (15 ounces) all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon instant espresso
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
16 tablespoons (2 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature (see note above)
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
3 cups sugar
5 eggs
1 cup milk
1 cup dark chocolate chips
1 cup diced, pitted cherries
