Apple Pie by Grandma Ople Recipe

recipe byAllRecipes
Notes:

I took a few suggestions from some cooks…
Added 1 tsp. of cinnamon, 1/4 tsp. nutmeg, ¼ cup flour and a tsp. of vanilla.
I took another cook’s suggestion and saved 1/3 of the caramel to brush the top of pie with.
Another cook suggested baking it at 350°F for an hour as opposed 425°F.

Ingredients:

1 recipe pastry for a 9 inch double crust pie
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup water
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
8 Granny Smith apples - peeled, cored and sliced

Melt butter in a sauce pan. Stir in flour to form a paste. Add white sugar, brown sugar and water; bring to a boil. Reduce temperature, and simmer 5 minutes.
Meanwhile, place the bottom crust in your pan. Fill with apples, mounded slightly. Cover with a lattice work of crust. Gently pour the sugar and butter liquid over the crust. Pour slowly so that it does not run off.
Bake 60 minutes at 350°F (175°C).
Note: you might want to set a baking sheet under the pie to catch any drips.
