Baked Asparagus Casserole

Ingredients: 

1 pound asparagus, trimmed
3 tablespoons butter
1 large clove garlic, minced
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
salt and pepper
1/3 to 1/2 grated paresan cheese


Cold water in skillet. Place asgaragus in a large skillet with salt and cover. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, simmer for 5 minutes until spears are tender but still snap. Place asparagus in a shallow casserole pan.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. 

In a small saucepan, melt butter over moderately low heat.  Add garlic, lemon juice, and pepper.  Simmer until garlic softens, about 1 minute.  Be careful not to let the butter burn. Pour lemon garlic butter mixture over the asparagus.  Be sure to coat the bottom of the casserole thoroughly.  Bake for about 5 minutes.  Remove from oven and sprinkle with grated cheese.  Turn on the broiler and broil until the cheese is melted and bubbling.
