Baked Ziti (Ziti al Forno)

Notes: 

This is such a great dish for a Sunday family dinner. An excellent do ahead meal for end of the year school sports banquets.

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup of olive oil
  • 1 clove of garlic, minced
  • 1-cup onion, chopped
  • 28-ounce can plum tomatoes, crushed
  • 6-8 basil leaves, torn
  • 1 tablespoon of Italian flat- leaf parsley, minced
  • ½ teaspoon of oregano
  • 1 pound of ziti 2 tablespoons of ricotta (optional)
  • 8 oz. of mozzarella, cubed
  • 2 tablespoons of freshly grated
  • Parmesan cheese, plus extra for the table 

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F
  2. Heat the oil with the garlic and chopped onion. Sauté over medium high heat for 5 minutes, stirring until the onion becomes translucent.
