1 lb. dried Pinto beans
1/2 lb. thick cut bacon, chopped
1 Vidaila onion, chopped
1 Serrano pepper, chopped or green pepper
¼ cup tomato paste
½ cup dark brown sugar
¼ cup molasses
¼ tsp cayenne pepper
1 tsp liquid smoke
1 tsp black pepper
2 tsp salt
4 cups of the reserved water your beans soaked in
1) Soak beans overnight in a plastic container covered with cold water and stored in fridge.
2) Place large oven safe pot or ceramic dish with a lid over med heat. Add in chopped bacon Cooked or uncooked, onion and jalapenos/peppers. Cook about 5 min until the onions are soft stir in tomato paste, brown sugar and molasses
3) Drain the beans, keeping 4 cups of liquid stored in a measuring cup
4) Add beans to pot,add 4 cups of the reserved bean water liquid to to the pot, raise heat to high and allow to come to a boil. Add cayenne, black pepper and salt
stir and cover pot with lid.
5) Place covered pot in the oven for 6-8 hours @ 250 F until the beans are soft.
Tip: If you didn't soak the beans overnight but only a few hours you can push the cooking process forward by cooking the beans at a low boil for about and hour, before adding the other ingredients. They should be soft and firm to the bite but not mushy. This will cut your oven cooking time to 2-3 hours.

Homemade beans recipes don't start out with "drain 2 cans of beans". That's just wrong!! These are the real deal. But you need to soak the beans beginning the night before.
