1 loaf challah or brioche bread (about 16 ounces), cut into 1-inch-thick slices
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, at room temperature, divided
6 large eggs
3 cups eggnog
1 cup whole or 2% milk
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons bourbon, or 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1/8 teaspoon salt
Powdered sugar, ground cinnamon, and warm maple syrup, for serving
