Asian Ribs & Char Siu

We love those yummy red Asian ribs you get at good Chinese restaurants. As always we want to make them at home to . The plus side is this recipe is also used to make your own Char Siu which is a must for fried rice or just plain good old eatin'.

Ingredients: 

2-3 pounds of pork ribs, baby back, St Louis whatever you have available
1/2 cup hosin sauce
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup brown sugar or honey
1/4 cup cooking wine, red/white/rice wine
2" grated fresh ginger
4 cloves crushed garlic
1teaspoon sesame oil
1/2 teaspoon Five Spice powder
1/2 teaspoon red food coloring

2 tablespoons corn starch


  1. Mix all ingrediants except corn starch together and place in a zip lock bag.
  2. Cut ribs into individual ribs and place in the bag with the marinade.
  3. Marinate in the rifrigerator overnight.
  4. Drain marinade into a pan and place the ribs into a large sheet of foil and cover tighly.
  5. Bake in a 350 over for 1 hour.
  6. Drain away the excess liquid from the ribs.
  7. Bring marinade to a boil to kill any bacteria, Let cool, wisk in 2 tablespoons of cornstarch/water into the left over marinade and re-heat until thickened.
  8. Lay ribs out on the foil and brush with the sauce thoroughly. Return to the oven for 10 minutes and baste with the sauce again, heat 10 more minutes and you're done!
  9. For Char Siu use either pork tenderloin or pork loin and cut into chunks 3-4"diameter around and 5-6 " long (kinda like a temderloin cut).
  10. Marinate in a zip lock bag over night
  11. Bake in a 350 oven for 45 minutes.
