Black & White Cookies

Ingredients: 

1/2 cup shortening (1/4 cup margarine, 1/4 cup crisco)
1 1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 cup sour cream
1 tsp vanilla
2 3/4 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt


  1. Cream together shortening & sugar. 
  2. Add eggs & mix. 
  3. Stir in sour cream & vanilla. 
  4. Sift flour, baking soda, baking powder, & salt. 
  5. Gradually stir flour mixture into sour cream mixture. 
  6. Chill for at least one hour (preferably overnight). 
  7. Drop by tablespoons (for large) or teaspoons (for small) 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. 
  8. Bake at 400 degrees for 8-10 minutes (light brown on bottom & top springs back). 
  9. Cool on rack & then ice. 
  • Icing: Stir together 1 1/2 cups confectioners sugar. 
  • Add 1 tsp vanilla. 
  •   Add a small amt of liquid (1/2 milk & 1/2 water). 
  • Stir until the icing runs but does not drip. 
  •  Spread on 1/2 of each cookie. 
  • Make more icing. Add cocoa for chocolate & ice cookies.
