For the cookies:

16 tablespoons (2 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 cups flour, plus more for the work surface
1/4 teaspoon salt
For the glaze:
2 large egg yolks
2 tablespoons water
