Ingredients: 

3 large vine-ripened tomatoes
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/4 cup (firmly packed) basil leaves, washed and dried
1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
4 garlic cloves, peeled and split lengthwise
1 baguette, sliced on the diagonal 1/2-inch thick
