Colonial Gingerbread

Ingredients: 

2 Cups ll purpose flour
1 Cup molasses
1/4 Cup buttermilk
1/2 Cup sugar
1/2 Cup butter, softened
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp ground ginger
1tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
1 Egg
Confectioners sugar


  1. Preheat oven to 325.
  2. Grease and flour 9x9 baking pan.
  3. In large bowl, mix all ingredients except confectioners sugar with mixer on low speed.
  4. Beat until blended, constantly scrapping bowl with rubber spatula.
  5. Increase speed to medium and continue beating 3 more minutes, occasionally scraping bowl.
  6. Pour batter into pan adn bake 1 hour or until inserted toothpic comes out clean.
  7. Cool gingerbread in pan on wire rack.
  8. Dust top with confectioners sugar.
