Jamaican Pumpkin Soup with Buttermilk

Ingredients: 

2 cups canned or fresh pumpkin, cut into 1 inch cubes
1 onion, minced
6 cups chicken broth
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 bay leaf
½ teaspoon dried thyme
¼ cup minced, fresh cilantro, for garnish
¼ cup buttermilk
2 teaspoons minced jalapeño
Freshly ground nutmeg, to taste
2 cups potatoes, peeled and cut into 1 inch cubes
