Layered Lettuce Salad

This was in a church cookbook.
I changed it to suit my tasted and you can too.
Originally it had a layer of green peppers and no tomatoes. Also it had just mayonnaise (no sour cream) and it had bacon bits on top.

Ingredients: 

1/2 head iceberg lettuce, cut coarsely
1/2 cup chopped celery
a layer of grape tomatoes, cut in half
1 package of frozen peas (uncooked)
1/2 medium purple onion, cut in half and sliced thinly
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup sour cream
2 teaspoons sugar
2 teaspoons vinegar
1/4 cup parmesan cheese
1 cup grated cheddar cheese


  1. Use a large glass round salad bowl. 
  2. Mix together the mayonnaise, sour cream, sugar, vinegar and parmesan cheese. Beat with a wire whisk.
  3. First layer the bottom with lettuce.
  4. Then continue, with celery, tomatoes, frozen peas, onions, mayo and sour cream mixture,
  5. Gently dribble over vegetables.
  6. Top with cheddar cheese.
  7. Cover and refrigerate overnight or 24 hours.
  8. Serve untossed.
