To make them even more fun for autumn, I gave each peanut butter cup a dollop of pumpkin butter before adding the final coating of chocolate. You can skip this if you like...but I wouldn't.
One note — definitely set aside an afternoon to make these cups. They're not that complicated, but the process of melting the chocolate, letting it set, and so on takes some time. If you're making these for a party, you can make them several days ahead and keep them in an airtight container in a cool part of your house.
Go on! Make yourself a batch. Just be sure to have a few friends nearby so you aren't tempted to eat them all yourself.
Makes 22 to 24
3/4 cup peanut butter or other nut butter
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon pumpkin spice mix, plus more to taste
1 pound good-quality dark chocolate or milk chocolate, chopped if purchased as a block
1/2 cup pumpkin butter, optional
