Ingredients: 

3 large egg whites, at room temperature
1 big pinch kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar (or 1/4 teaspoon white vinegar or lemon juice)
3/4 cup granulated sugar, plus extra for whipped cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract, divided
1 cup cold heavy cream
1 pint strawberries, hulled and sliced in quarters
a few sprigs fresh (unsprayed) lilac
