Gado Gado

Notes: 

Serves 4

Ingredients: 

9 oz white cabbage, shredded
4 carrots, matchsticks
4 celery ribs, matchsticks
9 oz bean sprouts
1/2 cucumber, matchsticks
Fried onions, salted peanuts and sliced chili to garnish

Peanut sauce:
1 TB oil
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 garlic clove, crushed
1 small piece golangal, peeled and grated
1 tsp ground cumin
1/4 tsp chili powder
1 tsp tamarind paste or lime juice
4 TB crunchy peanut butter
1 tsp light brown sugar


  1. Steam cabbage, carrots and celery 3-4 minutes. Let cool.
  2. Spread out bean sprouts on dish. Arrange cabbage, carrots, celery, cucumber on top.
  3. Make sauce. Saute onion and garlic until soft. Stir in golangal and spices and cook 1 minute. Add rest of ingredients.
  4. Heat sauce gently. Spoon over vegetables. Garnish.
