Linguini with Tomato, Basil and Capers

Ingredients: 

2 lbs. tomatoes, peeled, seeded and coarsely chopped
1 cup fresh basil, coarsely chopped
2 Tbsp. olive oil, divided
1/3 cup onion, finely chopped
1/3 cup carrot, finely chopped
1/3 cup celery, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1 3-1/4 oz. jar capers, drained and rinsed
2 Tbsp. vinegar
Salt and pepper to taste
1 lb. spinach or whole wheat linguini
