I have made this for years but you need onions also and omit peas. Never heard of peas in mashed potatoe salad.
8 medium-sized potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks (see Note)
1/4 cup pickle relish
1/4 cup milk
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
1 teaspoon prepared mustard
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
6 hard-boiled eggs, coarsely chopped
1 cup frozen peas, thawed (or chopped green bell pepper)
