I guess I'm not such a recent "foodie", but it still feels like it to me. I started walking away from the frozen/boxed foods in 2006 or so. We moved away from the Portland metro area in 2008, to a small, rural community south of Eugene. From that point, it's been all about local and seasonal foods. I'm a member of a CSA, a weekly farmer's market shopper and I am super lucky to have a bakery right here in town, where I buy all of our bread.
I'm not a splendid cook/baker, but I do okay. The most important part is that my family will eat what I serve. They DO! In fact, when they aren't able to eat at my table, they report to me that they cannot wait to return.
Today, very little in the way of mass produced foods cross the threshold of my home or grocery basket. I feel this to be a great accomplishment in my life. Changing our eating habits has been a long road, but one that I've made happily.
I've been making this about every other week this winter. I love the way it looks and the way it smells while preparing it.
